10 Self Care Tips To Help You Live Your Best Life

It’s often easier said than done isn’t it? Finding time to do things for you or things that YOU love and want to do?

I’m going to share with you 10 self-care tips that you can choose from (thats right you don’t have to do them all) and start implementing into your daily life to enhance your personal well-being. They might sound simple but believe me. they work!

1. Sleep

Adequate and consistent sleep has a huge effect on how you feel both emotionally and physically and not getting enough can cause major health issues and accelerate the ageing process, not only for your skin but your mind and body too. Try to get at least 7 to 8 hours a night. Go to bed early and wake up early.

2. Eat well

What are you eat is crucial for the bacteria that inhabit your gut. They choices you make will result in a cascade of either positive or negative outcomes. Eat real food, eat plants, don’t fear fats and limit processed sugars.

3. Exercise

Now I’m not talking joining a HIIT class, but if that’s your thing go for it. I’m talking a daily walk (at least 20-30 min) preferably outside that will boost your mood, circulation, Vitamin D and reduce stress and anxiety.

4. Learn to say no

This is a hard one because many of us feel obligated to say yes when someone asks for our time and energy. This will take time and practice but once you learn how to politely say no you will regain confidence and have more time for your needs.

5. Get outside

Spending time outside lowers blood pressure because it reduces stress and helps us to be more mindful. It can also reduce fatigue and help overcome symptoms of depression or burnout. Combine it with your daily walk or some gardening. Reap the benefits of natural sunlight, nature and fresh air.

6. Fur-babies

Pets offer unconditional love and companionship and can hugely impact our wellbeing. Studies have shown a significant reduction of anxiety in PTSD patients with dogs while improvements has also been seen in other mental health patients. Cuddle and talk to your fur-babies regularly. It will not only help your mental health but theirs too.

7. Get organised

My husband taught me this one. Make lists and feel the satisfaction of ticking them off. Keeping an organiser or a planner can help you write down all your responsibilities and appointments while at the same time keeping your life in order.

8. Swap your phone for a book from time to time

Reading  improves brain connectivity and increases vocabulary and comprehension, reduces stress and blood pressure, lowers the heart rate and prevents cognitive decline. Self-help books can be great place to start.

9. Take yourself out for a coffee

I found this one difficult to do it first. There is something so calming and satisfying heading out to your favourite spot for a coffee or some breakfast, while enjoying a book and time with yourself. If this is not something you feel comfortable with, how about grabbing a take-away coffee to enjoying while going for a walk? I don’t know about you but coffee always tastes better when someone else has made it for me too!

10. Schedule your self-care time and guard it with your life

Yes I know it can be difficult to find extra time. Planning regular time and moments alone can help to keep you grounded. Moments with friends can help you feel more connected and relaxed. Whatever you decide whether you just want to go for a long walk, have a bath, enjoy a good book or movie, get a facial or massage or take a yoga class; the time is yours. The moment is yours.
